    • The reason maintenance agreements are valuable is the relationships, there is value in being able to sell more things to that customer.
    • There are 3 keys to building hardware: it needs to be cost-effective, it needs to be easy to install, and it needs to be applicable to every single situation.

Josh Teekell of SmartAC.com on the Change Your Filter podcast

Who is Josh Teekell?

Josh Teekell is the Founder & CEO of SmartAC.com. SmartAC.com tech powers Smart Maintenance plans, helping HVAC & Plumbing companies maximize revenue by tripling their membership conversion rates, lowering attrition, and eliminating zero-fee truck rolls.

Before starting SmartAC, Josh was a professional poker player out of college and discusses this experience at the start of this episode. After his poker stint, he went into the workforce utilizing his mechanical engineering degree which he gained at Cedarville University.

Early on, as Josh quotes, he was “not a good employee”. He was an entrepreneur at heart. Josh ended up starting his own outdoor landscaping company 10 months after his first job. This episode mainly focuses on SmartAC, but the lessons he learned building his landscaping company are prevalent throughout the show.

What to Expect

In this episode, you can expect to learn about the creation of the SmartAC technology, what it is & how it works, and the hardware behind it. Additionally, Josh gives his take on the psychology of buying decisions/sales within the home services industry and breaks down the difference between question-based & presentation-based discovery in the home.

You’ll also hear why Josh made the transition into the HVAC industry, and what charges his ambition to bring technology into other industries. On top of that, Josh discusses OEMs – where they fall short and where they are limited – and discusses his experience of building hardware –  financing, manufacturing, and how to bring it to market.

Lastly, Josh and Paul also have an intriguing discussion on maintenance plan agreements, and whether or not  “maintenance is dead.” Josh brings light to his Smart Maintenance software in this episode, and it is up to you (the viewer) to decide if Smart Maintenance is the future.

Excited for the Future

Josh is very excited about the future of home services and all the innovations we can expect to see. Josh feels there are tons of great CRMs and tech companies within our space, and has high hopes for the future of home services.
