Todd Liles on the Change Your Filter Podcast

Who is Todd Liles

Todd Liles is the Founder and CEO of Service Excellence Training in Buda, Texas. Todd is a southerner, having been born in Louisiana and raised in Mississippi. Todd grew up in the trades and got his first construction job at the age of 14.

Todd graduated from Louisiana Tech with a performing arts degree to satisfy his passion for theater and debate. After college, he landed a job working for an environmental laboratory testing company, where he solidified the relationships responsible for his entry into the home services industry.

As Todd moved through his career, he eventually became the Director of Training for Clockwork Home Services’ Success Academy and soon started his owner partnership, before creating Service Excellence.

What to Expect

In this episode, you’ll learn how and why Todd got fired from the partnership he started after working for Clockwork Home Services’ Success Academy. Todd also explains why he was sued by Clockwork Home Services’ Success Academy after starting his own company.

You’ll also hear the “life lessons” he learned from these experiences, and why Todd now believes that some of life’s greatest treasures are on “the other side of a total mess”.

You will also hear how Todd grew his coaching company, Service Excellence, from solopreneur status to now having a team of more than 20 employees training home service contractors, while maintaining corporate relationships across the country.

Throughout the episode, Todd shares the foundations upon which he bases his coaching. He also shares the free tools and resources available for contractors allowing them to add value to both their customers and their company.

You’ll learn about Todd’s relationship with Seth Godin and the marketing tactics he learned from him. Finally, you’ll learn about one of Service Excellence’s most powerful tactics, the “Press Play System.”

The Future of Coaching

Todd began training salespeople for his clients and then began training CSRs. However, Todd soon started to realize that his company wasn’t building leaders within his clients’ organizations.

Todd now understands the easiest way to improve a company is by fixing the business owner first, and then building a strategic plan for business success. Todd strongly believes that the principles and core values of a company are the most important success factors for a business. Once the cultural core values are built, the systems and processes are easily constructed in alignment with the underlying principles of the organization. However, in order to do that, you must start with the leader of the organization!

Todd’s approach to coaching is not one that is scalable for his company, but instead scalable for his clients. Todd sees a lot of other coaches out there using “in your face” social media and large group roundtables. Todd wishes them well and believes that is beneficial for the industry.  However, Todd believes that time will prove the phenomenal power of 1 on 1 coaching and building organizational core values. These are the key principles that help people live the life they deserve!
